Vernon
was born Feb. 2, 1929 at Boomer, NC. he graduated from
Wilkesboro High School and then on for five years at North Carolina
State University at Raleigh, graduating with a BS degrees in furniture
manufacturing and management. With R.O.T.C. training, he entered
the army as a lieutenant and served 21 months during the Korean
Conflict, ten of them in Korea. In April of 1954, he began
working for Broyhill Furniture Industries in the upholstery division,
becoming Plant Manger of Upholstery Plant 5 in Taylorsville in
1762. He is active in the Republican party and was elected
County Commissioner of Alexander County for four years. He has
served as an officer in many local organization and has won several
trophies as a top flight golf winner.
He married Patty Louise Canter at New Hope Baptist Church at Purlear on
Aug. 7, 1954. She was born at Purlear on August 16, 1931. |
